Permanent residents who want to become Canadians may be eligible to apply for citizenship.
To become a Canadian citizen, you must:
- be a permanent resident,
- have lived in Canada for at least 3 out of the last 5 years,
- have filed your taxes (if applicable),
- prove your proficiency in English or French (which often involves taking a language exam), and
