The Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) is a branch of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada that hears appeals related to immigration.
The IAD can hear the following appeals:
- removal order appeals: the government has given you a removal order,
- sponsorship appeals: the government refused your application to sponsor a relative to immigrate to Canada,
- residency obligation appeals: you are a permanent resident, and the government finds that you have been inside Canada for less than 730 days within the last 5 years (which is required to maintain permanent residency status)
- inadmissibility appeals: in a previous proceeding, the Immigration Division (ID) made a decision about your admissibility to Canada, but the Minister disagreed with the ID and filed an appeal.
Navigating appeals to the IAD can be difficult. We recommend you act quickly and seek help from a legal professional.
