If you lie or misrepresent yourself to the Government of Canada, you may be declared inadmissible. This applies to foreign nationals, temporary residents, and permanent residents.

Inadmissibility from misrepresentation usually happens when people lie to or hide information from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) or Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (ICCA).

Misrepresentation includes:

  • providing a fake or altered document,
  • claiming education or employment experience you do not have, and
  • any other false information you knowingly provide to the Government of Canada.

Misrepresentation can also happen when you do not provide required information. For example:

  • failure to mention a family member or dependent,
  • failure to mention if you have been declined a visa to another country, or
  • failure to provide full details about your medical history, criminal history, or finances.

You can also be found inadmissible if you have been sponsored to come to Canada by someone who misrepresented themselves.
