NEXUS is a program created by Canada and the United States to make it easier for people to move across the Canada-U.S. border.

NEXUS is designed for frequent, low-risk travellers. The main advantage of NEXUS is that it makes border crossings quicker. NEXUS members can use automated kiosks at airports and reserved lanes at land border crossings to avoid long line-ups. A NEXUS card can also be used in place of a passport when travelling between Canada and the United States.

To be eligible for NEXUS, you must:

  • be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada or the United States (Mexican citizens can also apply for NEXUS if they are part of the Viajero Confiable program),
  • pass background security checks, and
  • meet all the requirements set by NEXUS.
