The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) is one option available to people who want to become permanent residents of Canada and live in a specific province or territory. There are two options available to those applying for a PNP:
- the Express Entry stream, and
- the non-Express Entry stream.
In the Express Entry stream, you apply for nomination directly from a province or territory under an Express Entry stream or create an Express Entry profile stating your interest in a particular province or territory. If the province or territory sends you a “notification of interest,” you must contact them to continue the process.
In the non-Express Entry Stream, you apply directly to the province or territory under a non-express Entry Provincial Nominee Program.
Every province and territory has its own rules and criteria for immigration. Some provinces prefer skilled trades workers, while some provinces prefer other skilled or semi-skilled workers, business people, or students.
If you become a permanent resident through a provincial nominee program, you must settle in the province or territory through which you applied.
